before the festival begins with these family friendly field experiences! Registration for these one of a kind adventures is coming soon.

Kayak through the Marsh

Embark on a naturalist-led kayak through the brilliant marshes of Chincoteague Bay. Learn about one of the most productive ecosystems on earth and see the diversity in wildlife that call these wetlands home.

Wonders of Wallops Island Trip

A field trip to the sand dunes of NASA's restricted Wallops Island will allow you to see a pristine environment. This island is closed to the public, so this is a unique opportunity to see a natural beach ecosystem. While in the field, learn about dune succession and collect and identify shells on a beach walk led by CBFS Educators.

Bird Blitz

During the migratory season, millions of birds along the Atlantic Flyway "funnel" through this small area along Virginia’s Eastern Shore. More than 400 species have been recorded on these islands. Take a hike with birding guru Mike Hillman to learn about identification methods using field markings, vocalizations, and behavior patterns.
